This week Ethan had his last round of chemotherapy! Yay! This was a very big thing for Ethan. Something to celebrate and be happy for. All of his blood counts were good this week and he was able to get his regular chemo treatment.
After chemo Ethan went upstairs to the Eye clinic. He saw a specialist to have his eyes thoroughly tested. Luke has worn glasses for years and years and said that he has never had all of these tests done. So the lady was thorough. We were told the droopy eye lid was a common side effect and that it wouldn’t affect Ethan’s eye sight and would improve once the chemo was out of his system. However over the last week or two the droopy eye lid has actually improved and Ethan started squinting a lot. He has been banging into things a lot however he always did so we weren’t sure if he was doing it more or if we were imagining things.
The results showed that Ethan is now long sighted. On top of that he can’t move his eyes from side to side, he has to rotate his whole head to move his vision. The specialist seemed to be surprised by this and quizzed Luke quite extensively about his vision and if he was cross eyed as a child etc. Thankfully I had taken him to get a thorough health check when he turned 5 in March and he did a full eye test and came up with perfect vision. So I’m not double guessing myself or wishing I had done something earlier. The lady wasn’t sure what to prescribe or do about it. He has another appointment with the Head of the whole department on Wednesday. All we were told is that it was caused by nerve damage from the chemo. The lady was not able to say if it would be permanent or not. We still have to go back for blood tests every week so we will be able to do it all in the one day.
Ethan’s next scan is on the 3rd of December. We get the results on the 5th. Surgery is then booked in for Monday the 9th. Which means if all goes according to plan we will be home for Christmas! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ethan’s appetite is increasing all the time. He has put on 5 kg in the past month! This is brilliant. He is looking better each week. He certainly had A LOT of super grumpy moments today but all in all he is going really well.
