As mentioned in a previous blog Ethan LOVES the puppets from Camp Quality. They have visited him in hospital twice and both times Ethan was laughing and smiling non stop.
One of the services Camp Quality offer is to do a free puppet show for schools who have a student diagnosed with cancer. This week Josie and Nat from Camp Quality brought their puppets Dean and Kylie to our school. In the show Kylie was returning to school for the first day after being away for 3 months receiving treatment for Leukemia. At first Dean teases her for being “as skinny as a cheese stick” (Ethan’s favourite line) and being pale and pasty etc. When he sees how upset she is about this Dean apologises and learns that is is NOT cool to be cruel. They then taught the kids a rap about that. Kylie explains what chemotherapy is and the side effects that come with it. Dean learns that it isn’t contagious and that you can still have lots of fun with a friend who has cancer.
The show was educational, very funny and entertaining all round. All the kids were roaring with laughter. The puppeteers are seriously talented (Luke now wants to go to puppet school). Luke, Vienna and I got to go and watch too. So the whole family had a great time.
What a wonderful service from Camp Quality. The puppet show is sponsored by MacDonalds. It was a fun way to educate children on childhood cancer. Thanks for the laughs Nat and Josie – you guys are awesome!
